About Our Manufacture
Our manufacture honors the traditions from the Valdivian culture (3,500 BC to 500 BC). They use strong, long leaves of the toquilla plant to weave a lightweight, flexible, and durable fabric to make hats. During the lunar cycle, they cut the straw which is more flexible for weaving. They open the green stem and the youngest leaves are meticulously selected, cut lengthwise, and folded. The narrower the threads, the finer the hat. The straw is left to dry under the warm equatorial sun. The weavers take the dry threads and knot by knot create the weave of the hat.

With a cloth measuring tape, measure around the largest part of the head above the eyebrows. Refer to the chart below for size conversion or call us for help.
