About Barbour
In 1894 John Barbour opened a shop in South Shields. From the beginning, Barbour was an innovator in the clothing industry. In 1936 they developed the motorcycle suit worn by virtually every British International team. In 1939 they manufactured the Ursula suit, which became a standard issue for members of the Submarine Service. Today, the fifth-generation family-run company is a leader in outerwear. They are best known for their waxed jackets developed to handle harsh elements in the northeast English countryside.
